By Jo Tweedy For Mailonline. A double dating app which encourages friends to date in pairs has won over the investors on BBC show Dragons Den. The romance-inspired business, started by Gary MacDonough, 28, Loren Gould, 29, and Ben Greenock, 26, encourages daters to meet prospective new love interests in groups rather than one-on-one. Scroll down for video. The trio, who say their eureka moment came when a friend said she wanted to take a friend along on a date so it wouldn’t be so awkward, launched Double in February this year.
But it hasn’t all been plain sailing. However they can now count one of Britain’s most successful entrepreneurs as a backer after Nick Jenkins fought off offers from fellow Dragons Deborah Meadon and Touker Suleyman to win a share of the business. The company, which began after a friend of Gould’s revealed her reluctance to meet a potential date, has since doubled in size and opened a second office in Scotland. Unlike Tinder, daters on Double agree to meet in pairs which, the company founders say, means users have a less awkward and potentially safer experience.
Hopeful daters pair up with a friend, left, and start swiping, as they would on Tinder, but with a pal for company. Gould says of their appearance on the show: ‘We didn’t think we had a chance at getting investment as we were a dating app and weren’t generating any revenue’. When I asked if she would meet him she exclaimed it would be “too awkward and potentially unsafe”.

The investors overwhelmingly men pay to be part of the network which in return sifts through startup candidates over weeks of intensive due diligence. This event was a first for the GCA – we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part for helping to make it such a success. I found it challenging, hugely enjoyable, nerve-wracking, informative, eye-opening and slightly bonkers! Hi Sharon. I’m sure you’ve been inundated with emails today but I’m going to add to them! We wanted to say a BIG thank you for organising a great day yesterday. It was a brilliant idea and such a great opportunity for us to get face to face with the retailers and practice pitching – something we’d not done yet.
It really focused our minds on who we are, our sales figures and our future plans as a small publisher. It was lovely to hear their positive responses and a big confidence boost for us. I didn’t think being out of my comfort zone would be so much fun! I slept well afterwards too! Deb and Simon xx Desito. After overcoming my initial nerves, it was a fab event that soon became an environment that I felt comfortable and pleased to be a part of.
I hope you were pleased with the outcome?
