Jesus said that the poor would always be with us. Despite the best efforts of philanthropists and redistributionists over the last two millennia, he has been right so far. Every nation in the world has poor and rich, separated by birth and luck and choice. The inequality between rich and poor, and its causes and remedies, are discussed ad nauseam in public policy debates, campaign platforms, and social media screeds. And finally, there is a type of inequality that everyone thinks about occasionally and that young single people obsess over almost constantly: inequality of sexual attractiveness. The economist Robin Hanson has written some fascinating articles that use the cold and inhuman logic economists are famous for to compare inequality of income to inequality of access to sex. If we think of dating in this way, we can use the analytical tools of economics to reason about romance in the same way we reason about economies. One of the useful tools that economists use to study inequality is the Gini coefficient.
Women’s Number One Fear When It Comes To Online Dating

A few years ago, the concept of online dating was pretty alien and So I decided to go completely out of my dating comfort zone and do an extreme social experiment. I’ve met probably half of my guy friends from Tinder. easily get out of an uncomfortable situation, they’re amazing and deserve fat tips.
The guys behind the male-dating advice site Simple Pickup wanted to see what would happen if they matched up their friend Sarah with some dates on Tinder. But instead of showing up as skinny as the way she looked in her bikini photo, she donned makeup and a fat suit to appear pounds heavier. The idea for the social experiment was triggered by a study that reported that the number one fear for women who go on online dates is that they’ll end up with a serial killer. But the number one fear for men is that they’d end up with a fat girl.
Four of the five men who were on Sarah’s date lineup found reasons to cut the first meeting short. One man bluntly said he did not appreciate being lied to and being made to waste gas to meet up. Another man excused himself to go to the bathroom and never came back. And another one said he was actually married.
Women who showed up looking fatter than their photo had very different experiences. Keep it classy dude. The Huffington Post piece points out that a study has shown that women who date online are afraid of meeting a serial killer and men who date online are afraid of meeting someone fat, that definitely seems to be playing out here.
Fat Girl Tinder Date (Social Experiment) video transcript Mod Note: The video that the number one fear for women dating online is that they’re gonna meet a serial killer. Sara: Hi [shaking hands with Guy #3] yeah, yeah.
Following on – but in a much more tasteful vain – from Sam Pepper’s three-part ‘social experiment’ whereby he got men to pinch women’s bottoms in order to stand up for sexual harassment yeah, us neither , two guys decided to make a video about gender discrimination and how both men and women reacted to meeting a stranger from Tinder who is ‘larger’ than their profile suggests. The video creators speak at the beginning of the video, explaining that whilst the number one fear for women about meeting someone online is that they might be a serial killer legit , the number one fear for men is that they’re going to meet someone fat.
To ‘test’ the theory, the creators asked their friend Sarah to line up a few Tinder dates using her usual profile, but when she meets them she will be wearing a fat-suit that adds a considerable amount onto her body weight, to see how her dates would react. Although Sarah is clearly acting and playing up a little bit, the reactions of her dates are first ones of shock and surprise – understandable if they thought they were expecting someone completely different – usually commenting “You look quite different”.
But then they begin to outline their surprise and shock, and that’s when it get ugly. One guy says, “I don’t mean to be rude, but in your photos you’re a lot skinnier,” whilst another says, “you actually look more voluptuous” whilst ACTUALLY gesticulating a curvy body with his hands. When Sarah says, “Well hey, different is good, right? I guess. Other offensive comments included, “do you like to eat”, “I don’t think Tinder is for me” and “I really don’t appreciate people lying to me” although I’m sure if her profile was of a chubby girl and she turned out to be a Victoria’s Secret model, he wouldn’t be complaining.
Men, on the other hand, fear that the woman they meet will be fat. You can obtain a copy of the Code, or contact the Council, at www. Please note that TheJournal. According to this social experiment, women would be much more likely to Their profile pictures were real, but on the date, they wore fat suits.
Specifically, the team was interested in testing the unsettling theory that, in the world of online dating, women are most afraid that their date will turn out to be a serial killer whereas men are most afraid that their date will be overweight. The team found a thin woman and a thin man to play along. Using photographs of the two, the team attracted a host of potential male dates for the woman and potential female dates for the man. Then the team applied prosthetics and padding to make the man and woman look heavier in real life than they did in their photographs.
Then the dates happened. Yes, all the female dates verbally acknowledged that their male date did not look the way they had expected him to look, but the women were WAY COOLER about this unexpected turn of events. This is not disrespect and hate these men have been carrying around since birth. This behavior is learned. We are brainwashing our little boys from the cradle on to believe that the worst possible thing that can happen on a date is for the girl in question to be bigger than expected.
The prosthetics and padding worn by both the male and female subject looked pretty obviously fake I was actually surprised that 0 out of the 10 subjects caught on to what was going on and overall was just a sloppy way of portraying what a bigger woman or man looks like. Particularly how gorgeous and awesome curves and bigger bodies can be. Fat suits, by nature, are cartoonish and distorting devices.
16 Lessons I Learned from Going on 300 Tinder Dates in a Single Year
Some of you must be aware of 2 videos on YouTube channel Simple Pickup that have caught the attention of the masses. In the first video, a girl posts her profile on dating website Tinder and arranges for a meetup with a few prospective fellows. The twist here is that she posts a regular picture of herself on her profile but then dons a fat suit just typing that out makes me cringe with annoyance for the meetups to see the reaction garnered from the guys.
The second video is of a guy doing the same thing when he meets prospective girlfriends from Tinder. If you have not watched the videos, Here is the one with the girl and Here is the one with the guy. First of all, I know so many confident, attractive people in the Fatshion community and some really gung-ho, headstrong fat positive icons who would have loved to be a part of this fat bias experiment.
Being overweight may be a deal breaker for guys on dates, while women Fat Suit Tinder Date (Social Experiment) The video hosts claim that the number-one fear for women who are online dating is being matched with a serial killer, while the Then, the Simple Pickup guys reversed the experiment.
A hot guy and a hot girl post profiles of themselves on Tinder and then when their dates show up they are wearing fat suits. False identities has been a hot topic on this blog. In fact, just last week we had Jen share how she thought she was dating an interior designer named Joel, who later turned out to not be an interior designer or named Joel. These people did a great job with their videos because initially the videos forced me to elicit the exact reaction they wanted — anger and disgust.
The women, on the other hand, seemed surprised at first but were still kind to their portly potential match. One kissed him goodbye and other made plans for a second date. Complete polar opposite reactions to the same situation. Yes, the videos were entertaining and yes, they did serve to show how men and women react differently.
However, my issue with the videos lie in the fact that I believe they were not necessary. Tinder, in itself, is a superficial medium for dating. On top of that, are we really that surprised with how this experiment turned out?
The unsuspecting dates, whose faces are blurred, have their reactions caught on hidden camera, so the rest of us can finally know just what varieties of cruelty Tinder truly has to offer. Men are mean to overweight women, but women are nice to overweight men, as it was laid down in ancient texts describing the universal laws that govern the sexes and their reactions to body image.
With over million views between them, the videos have also unfortunately been featured on a number of popular websites, sparking even more intelligent debate. Just saying — grandmothers have far more scathing things to say than these tricked Tinderites. Refreshingly enough, some comments reflect actual thought and insight into the issues at hand.
